Program Note

Lion’s Den is inspired by the biblical story of Daniel, and by my own experience witnessing a family member’s struggle with illness. Both narratives center on isolation, vulnerability, and quiet endurance.

Built on a persistent drone and a single, simple motivic gesture, the music often places this idea in a lone voice, evoking a sense of abandonment and emotional exposure. The work concludes with an unaccompanied clarinet solo that gradually fades into silence, leaving the listener in a space of unresolved stillness.
